Sometimes the best ideas come from the most unlikely of places. SAS OFF ROAD’s origin story was sparked from a simple pothole on the freeway.
I began driving heavy duty, diesel trucks over 25 years ago. As an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoor writer, I often found myself hauling a trailer or boat cross-country looking for the next honey hole.
I became accustomed to the harsh ride of heavy duty, diesel platforms. “It is what it is,” I thought, until a chance encounter in 2017 with a small pothole on the freeway changed everything. Hitting the pothole caused the steering wheel on my new Ford F250 Super Duty to jerk violently to one side. Ford diagnosed the problem as a blown steering stabilizer. Because it was a cheap part, it was a cheap fix. But when the same thing happened a second time, I began searching for a more permanent solution.
After some extensive research and a several failed attempts to fix the problem, I found Carli Suspension, a veteran-owned company on a “mission to bring the highest quality performance suspension systems to the market” using a “new breed of components.” Carli was founded with the stated goal of producing a bolt-on suspension kit that didn’t compromise ride quality, OEM configuration, component longevity and performance.
Installing a Carli High Mount Steering Stabilizer on my truck completely resolved my steering wheel issue. Needless to say, I was sold. I decided to install a complete Carli Suspension system on that truck. The results were undeniable. I had zero buyer’s remorse. It was as if I had entered a new world, where railroad tracks and graded dirt roads were no longer treacherous obstacles, and pulling into gas station inclines didn’t whip you side to side like a circus monkey strapped to the back of a rodeo bull.
I’ve since owned or tested nearly all of the various Carli Suspension systems. All have exceeded expectations, whether achieving a luxurious ride in town or pushing my trucks to the limits in some of the most remote and inhospitable areas of Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. I’ve never had a fail, and I never could have imagined that such a high level of ride quality and performance was attainable in heavy duty, diesel trucks.
